Gardiner says Lurgan Bomb Find reinforces need for political vacuum to be filled
Local Ulster Unionist Assemblyman for Upper Bann, Samuel Gardiner MLA, today praised the PSNI for their prompt action in uncovering the components of a 250 pound car bomb in a vehicle breaker’s yard in the Antrim road area of Lurgan.
“This is an excellent piece of work by the PSNI and serves as a timely reminder that we must normalize society here by getting the Assembly working as soon as possible. There are still dissident republican elements out there opposed to the peace process and it is unwise for this current political drift and vacuum to continue. These people always see political instability as an opportunity to try and make things worse by carrying out an atrocity. Clearly, that is what was being planned here.”
“The most chilling aspect of this find is the fact that the bomb material was unstable and because of this it would have been used quite soon. These people have no regard for basic standards of human behaviour. The bomb material was found close to a residential and business area. That poses a major risk to ordinary people going about their daily lives.”
“All of this reinforces the need for us to get the Assembly and political life fully operational again and working on behalf of the people,” said Mr Gardiner.
