Gardiner says DVLNI move on untaxed vehicles is another sign of an orderly society
Sam Gardiner MLA, Ulster Unionist Spokesman on the Environment, Local Government and Planning and Assembly Member for Upper Bann, today welcomed a DVLNI clampdown on untaxed vehicles.
“This new deal between the DVLNI and DVLA on the mainland means that the rate of removal of untaxed vehicles across the UK will be increased to 2,000 vehicles a week, with unclaimed vehicles being crushed. Vehicles identified as untaxed will be clamped and impounded and those that are not claimed after seven days will be crushed. That will take a great many hazardous vehicles off the roads.”
“This is good news for law-abiding citizens and bad news for the hard-core tax evaders. It is another sign that society here is becoming more normalised with a wider respect for law and order. These signs of normalisation are vital to encourage foreign investment into Northern Ireland.”
“I must add that some people here need to wake up to the fact that until there is political stability with the return of the Assembly at Stormont, Northern Ireland does not have a mission of encouraging serious inward investment. Some parties need to wake up to this fact and start to serve the people and get jobs into the Province and stop messing about wasting public money and trying the people’s patience.”
