Elliott pays Tribute to Darren Clarke in Ryder Cup Victory

Ulster Unionist Assembly member for Fermanagh & South Tyrone, Tom Elliott MLA wishes to pay tribute to Darren Clarke and the part he played in the memorable win for the European team in the Ryder Cup at the week- end, especially in view of the personal tragedy he felt after loosing his wife Heather last month.

Tom said: “Darren played a huge part in this victory by winning all three of his games he played in and everyone in the huge crowds at the K Club and the millions of TV viewers throughout the world could not have felt unmoved by his great talent and courage. Everyone from Dungannon can feel so proud of his achievements and he is right up there as on one of the greatest sporting feats by any sportsman from Northern Ireland.

I feel he was playing for his late wife, Heather and being part of the winning team has done a lot for him in trying to overcome his tragic loss last month.

I would propose that he should now be a candidate for Sportsman of the Year and Dungannon can feel rightly proud of his achievements, as he has proven to be a great ambassador for the golf and his home town. This Ryder Cup will always be remembered as Darren’s Ryder Cup and is a fitting tribute to a remarkable and modest sportsman.”
