Consumers will be dismayed at Gas Price Hike - Beggs
Ulster Unionist DETI Spokesperson Roy Beggs Jnr has said that customers will be dismayed at the latest gas price rise announced today by Phoenix Natural Gas.
In a statement, Mr Beggs said: “Energy industry analyst Platts recently reported that ‘the winter 06 wholesale gas price has dropped 26% from 89p/th on April 3 to 66p/th on September 11’.
“On the one hand, customers see wholesale price falls but, on the other, price rises from suppliers.
“Customers have been asked to shoulder a number of price rises – and I’m sure customers will be dismayed that once again they are being asked to absorb another hike.
“Households that experience – or which are in danger of slipping into – fuel poverty need to feel the benefit of price reductions now. Instead they face increased pressures heading into the winter.”
Concluding he said: “Government has said that a more competitive marketplace will improve the situation for consumers. I sincerely hope for the sake of Northern Ireland households reliant on this form of energy that these assurances will be realised.”
