Armstrong takes part in “Lets Talk” Magherafelt Style!

Billy Armstrong, Ulster Unionist Assembly Candidate for Mid-Ulster welcomed the opportunity to take part in today’s Let’s Talk event hosted by St. Mary’s Grammar School in Magherafelt.  In a statement Billy said,

“Young people are the voters of tomorrow and I feel that it is very important that today’s elected representatives reach out to them, to provide an understanding of who we are, our views and values and how we aim to address their needs.

This event, hosted by a newly formed politics society at St. Mary’s Grammar School and included students from The Rainey and Magherafelt High School was extremely well organised and is a credit to all those students who participated as well as Mr Lambon and Mr Brolly and the relevant teaching staff at all the schools.

“Issues raised today reflected the concerns of these young Mid-Ulster students - the likelihood of devolved government at Stormont or Plan B; a wish to progress to ‘normal’ politics; the proposed supercouncils and their lack of ‘local’ accountability, legislation on gay marriages and adoption, as well as views on super casinos and support for Ireland in the upcoming 6 Nations Rugby Tournament.

“One vital point that was impressed on me today was the excitement and enthusiasm that these young people have for politics and for the future of politics within Northern Ireland.

“It is up to us a politicians to grasp that enthusiasm, build on it by working together and to make democratic politics work in Northern Ireland for all of us.”
