Kennedy critical of Government for handing leg-up to Republicans in election by dismantling Crossmaglen Sanger
UUP Deputy Leader Danny Kennedy today accused the Government of cynically giving a leg up to Republicans by timing the announcement of the dismantling of the last significant military installation in Crossmaglen during the middle of an election.
In a statement Mr Kennedy, UUP assembly candidate for Newry and Armagh, said:
“I have to question the timing of the move, not only given the ongoing threat from republican dissidents but also the fact that this announcement, rather too fortuitously, comes slap bang in the middle of an election.
It appears to have been done for reasons of political expediency.”
