Multiple Sclerosis Row must be resolved quickly - Elliott & Donaldson

Ulster Unionist Party Assembly candidates for Fermanagh & South Tyrone, Kenny Donaldson and Tom Elliott have urged that the two sides in the dispute, between MS Society UK and the NI Council of the MS Society should quickly resolve the dispute, which erupted last week.

In a joint plea: Kenny and Tom said: ” It is imperative that the breakdown in communications between the local Council and the governing body are quickly repaired and restored for the benefit of all MS sufferers in Northern Ireland.

The MS Society was established in Northern Ireland in 1956 and currently has nearly 2000 members throughout the province and is recognised as the leading charity in providing much needed support to people affected by MS. The events of last week are causing deep concerns to the membership who wish to see this rift, mended, as quickly as possible.

We fear that if the current impasse is not quickly resolved, it could do unnecessary and untold damage to the fund raising activities of this very worthwhile charity, over the coming months. Let’s get everyone concerned around a table and come to an agreement on the best way forward. We are happy to facilitate such a meeting.

The MS Society makes a real difference to people living with MS and has 19 branches throughout Northern Ireland and offers local help, support, advice and services to all MS sufferers. We have been assured that there is no question of financial impropriety and would implore that this breakdown between the two bodies is quickly resolved, for the sake of all the MS sufferers in Northern Ireland.”
