Ulster Unionists welcome Police College Announcement
Ulster Unionists have today welcomed the announcement regarding the Police College.
Speaking after the announcement, Policing Board Member and UUP Newry and Armagh Assembly Candidate Danny Kennedy said:
“This new Police College is vital for the future development of the PSNI. It cannot be allowed to be delayed any further – the PSNI deserve world-class facilities to train the next generation of police officers in the latest techniques. That the PSNI have lacked adequate facilities for so long is disappointing, but I am pleased to see that progress has taken place.”
MLA for the area since 1998 and Mid-Ulster UUP Assembly Candidate Billy Armstrong said:
“The building of this new police college at Desertcreat will be a tremendous boost for Mid-Ulster and has the potential to inject much needed finances to the local economy and to act as a catalyst for other ventures in the future.
“The people of Cookstown are anxious to see the cutting of the first sod on site without further delay. It is felt that this new police academy will bring additional investment to the area and promote development in the neighbouring towns and villages.”
